Through Vertically Integrated Projects (VIP), students work with faculty on large-scale, real-world research and design projects.  It is an academic program, so students earn 1-2 credits per semester, and they can participate for multiple semesters (and years).  Previous experience is not required, but a willingness to learn and work with others is a must.

Beyond the benefits of contributing to interesting projects, working with faculty-student teams, and earning credits, VIP participation is also associated with higher job placement rates.
